James P. Brown

Manteo, NC - James Paul Brown, 85, of Manteo, NC died Saturday, December 23, 2017, at his home. Born in Robersonville, Martin County, NC on July 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Hannah Cuthrell Brown and Adrian Ernul Brown, Sr.

Jim served his country honorably in the United States Army between earning his bachelor's degree at Duke University and his master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His career was spent in Norfolk, Virginia serving his community as a teacher, coach, and administrator at Norview High School and Maury High School.

Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Raiford Brown; three daughters, Pam Rives (David), Cheryl Byrum (Matt), and Terri Brennan (Brian); a son, Jeffrey Paul Brown; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; three brothers; a niece; and a nephew.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. John Dutton and Rev. Jerry Cribb officiating with burial to follow at Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Twiford Colony Chapel.
