Alberta Q. Bailey

1928 - 2018

Alberta Q. Bailey, peacefully passed at the home of her son, on October 29,2018, with her son and one of her god daughters by her side. She was born in Portsmouth, VA, to the late James T. and Recy S. Quinn on January 27, 1928. She graduated from I. C. Norcom High School, Portsmouth, VA, in the January class of 1945 as salutatorian and received a scholarship to the Norfolk Division of Virginia State University. She held several jobs during her time in the workforce. Her longest career stint was with the Naval Air Station, Norfolk, VA where she held several positions and retired from there as a mainframe computer operator. She was a life-long member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA, where she served in various capacities and continued to do so even after her health prevented her from attending service. She also served with many other organizations. She is survived by her son, Keith Q. Bailey, Chesapeake, VA; a granddaughter, Nadia Bailey- Campbell (William) and her children (Dominic and Ailani); and two other great grandchildren (DeAngelo and Aurelius) and their mother Deloris Progras. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John F. Bailey, Jr.; a son Vernon F. Bailey and a grandson Donovan F. Bailey. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 2 -5 pm at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1248 N George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, VA. A life celebration service will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 5, 2018, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA. J. T. Fisher Funeral Services is handling the arrangements.
