Clarence Byler Obituary

Clarence H. Byler

Virginia Beach - Clarence Harvey (Curly) Byler left this world for higher ground Monday, January 05, 2015. Curly passed peacefully in his own bed after 93 years of doing it his way. Born in Burton, Ohio, his family moved to Princess Anne County in 1936. An avid pilot, Mr. Byler was a proud member of the United States Air Force and later a member of Virginia's Aviation Board. Curly leaves behind three grateful and loving children, Kathryn Nell Byler, Gary Clarence Byler and David Parker Byler and their mother, Virginia Byler, along with 10 very saddened grandchildren, Patrick, Andrew, Kristina and Daniel Byler Clark, Georgia Cate, Emma Grace and Levi Curtis Byler and Parker, Dustin and Brooke Byler. Also surviving Curly is his sister, Verna Yoder, and hundreds of cousins, nieces and grand nephews across the United States.

Mr. Byler was a member of the Khedive Temple Masonic lodge having served as Captain of the Motor Patrol and President of the International Association of Shrine Motor Corps. From humble beginnings, Curly became one of Virginia Beach's top residential developers and is known for creating the Larkspur neighborhood as well as many commercial and residential projects. Highly regarded by all who came in contact with him, his good works and memories will live on.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Charity United Methodist Church, 4080 Charity Neck Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shriners' Hospitals for Children or the Jennifer and Sarah Byler Foundation.

I had the privilege and honor of working for Mr. Byler (Curley) for 8 years and witnessing his daily work ethics and his loving relationship with his children and grandchildren. Only this amazing man could have led this amazing life and will be remembered by so many whose lives he has touched. May his soul rest in peace until we see him again.
