Olivia Bostic Obituary

Olivia Devereaux Naples Bostic

Virginia Beach - Olivia Devereaux Naples Bostic, 38, lost her battle with colon cancer on July 30, 2014. Olivia, originally from Lynchburg, Virginia attended Holy Cross Regional Catholic School and then graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1998. After ten years of travel, enjoying the west coast and working in various fields including entertainment travel, she returned to Virginia to attend EVMS to become a Physician Assistant. After earning her Master's Degree, she began her career at the Virginia Institute for Sports Medicine in 2005. Olivia met her husband, David, and his two children, Megan and Dylan in 2006. They married on October 16, 2010.

Olivia also waits in heaven for her parents, Jim and Gwen, her sister Lauren-Taylor, brother-in-law, Bill Jones and their son, Sean who is named after a good friend who died of Sarcoma. Olivia's brother, Jesse and his wife, Kate, live in Lynchburg with Olivia's two nieces, Lauren and Elaina.

Olivia was a driver in life. She charged through her career in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery with loyalty, respect and love for her patients and physicians. She had a firm resolve to be the strongest PA she could be. Her parents nicknamed her "Stands with a Fist". She fought through her cancer treatments with the same tenacity and bright spirit. If Olivia was feeling down, she let few others see it.

Olivia was diagnosed when she was feeling her best and strongest. She and David were avid athletes and nutrition nuts. David and her family would like to thank the Wareing's Gym team for their support and positive reinforcement through her treatments. Olivia's team at the Virginia Institute for Sports Medicine and Sentara Virginia Beach General kept her happily working 18 months after her diagnosis. She couldn't stay away from them or her patients.

The Bostic and Naples families also want to thank Dr Celeste-Ann Bremer, Angie Mayer her Nurse Practitioner and Ebony their nurse, along with the Virginia Oncology crew at Princess Anne who saw Olivia more often than anyone some days. Olivia was constantly helping other patients with their own medical issues during her treatments.

Olivia's sister, Lauren-Taylor and friends, Lisa, Trish, Cathie, Shannan, Julie L, and Julie B will continue to educate, advocate and assist anyone under 50 years old diagnosed with Colon Cancer.

A Memorial Mass will be on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A celebration of life will be held at Princess Anne Country Club Tuesday night from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

I met Olivia in SSU, SVBGH when she would come in to see her patients, post operative. She was always cheerful coming in at 6-7 AM to get her patients ready for discharged to home, before and even after being diagnosed with her illness. Always having a smile on her face and not letting anything get in her way. I will missed her very much. My sympathies to her husband, David and families.
Praying for you all.

Liv and I met through mutual friends in the mid90's. From William & Mary, ODU, running at Seashore State Park, Ghent, fraternity/sorority events, Smith Mountain Lake, our professional career overlaps... developed an amazing friendship. I plan to continue her legacy and celebrate her life and perpetuate the impact and energy she brought to us all.

We are heartbroken for Dave, his children, and for all of Liv's family at the loss of such a truly remarkable young woman. We pray you can find some measure of comfort in knowing what a huge and meaningful difference she made in her all-too-short life. We honor her life and Dave's courageous support for her in the struggle they shared so bravely. We send our love and prayers to all who are grieving for her, and we will do our part with our support for the Liv On Foundation. Carole and Dave Nickerson

I graduated with Olivia from HCS in 1994. She was always such a positive inspiration with her drive, love of life, and humor. My thoughts are with both the Naples and Bostic families, as well as her close friends. May you all find some peace in knowing Olivia changed so many lives for the better, and her spirit and legacy will continue that work. God bless.

I went to school with Jesse and live in the HR area. I wish I could attend the memorial; however, I will be at a conference. Olivia was a phenomenal individual who had a lot of love and life in her. I am keeping you, your family, and the Naples in my thoughts and prayer.
