Anita (Comninaki) Hill

Norfolk - BANGOR, MAINE Anita C. Hill, 96, died March 14, 2016 after a brief illness at a Bangor nursing home where she had lived for several years. She was born July 10, 1919, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Euripides Comninaki and Helga (Pedersen) Comninaki. Anita lived most of her life in Virginia, where she grew up in Norfolk and later lived for many years in Portsmouth with her husband and children. She worked as a bookkeeper early in her life and later as a substitute teacher, primarily for special education students. She met her husband, George Hill, during World War II and they married shortly after the war. After living in California for a while, they returned to Virginia, settling in Portsmouth, where they remained until moving to Maine a little over ten years ago to be with their daughter Elise and her family in Old Town. Anita was very active in the Sons of Norway, holding office both regionally in Hampton Roads (VA) and nationally, and, a lifelong sports fan, she was an ardent supporter of the Old Dominion University's women's basketball team. Anita will be remembered as a great friend and granny and for her love for her family and friends, her humor, her intelligence, and her warm personality that made everyone immediately feel at home around her.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Anita was predeceased by her husband, George C. Hill, and her daughter, Elise (Hill) Turner. She is survived by her other daughter, Anita H. Robinson, and her family (husband Jodie and son Jodie, Jr.), of Opelika, Alabama, and by her son-in-law, Roy M. Turner, and his daughter Kathrina E. Turner, of Old Town, Maine. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their children. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, Pastor and Teacher of All Souls Congregational Church, Bangor, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
