Gregory Costanza Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home - Tidewater Drive Chapel on Mar. 4, 2026.
Gregory M. Costanza, 52, of Norfolk, VA, passed away on March 2, 2026, after a brief illness. Born to Frank and Evelyn Costanza on May 28, 1973, Greg enjoyed growing up in Virginia Beach and on the Eastern Shore. A graduate of Northampton High School and Old Dominion University, he worked in Norfolk Public Schools for 20+ years, most recently teaching at the Norfolk Juvenile Detention Center alongside a wonderful group of colleagues.

An enthusiastic amateur gardener, Greg spent countless hours in his yard, growing all sorts of plants and flowers and tending to his lawn. He was also an avid sports fan, fervently rooting for the Atlanta Braves, Washington Commanders, and all Old Dominion teams.

Greg's vibrant spirit was best captured by his love for live music. A wildly devoted fan of the band Phish, he attended hundreds of shows since 1993. For Greg, these concerts were more than just music. Instead, they were the foundation for his deep, lasting connections with a wide and wonderful "team" of cherished, loyal friends.

Greg leaves behind his loving wife of 17 years, Ashley, as well as his tight-knit family: brother Chris Costanza and his wife Hope, sister Stacey Moore and her husband Michael, brother and sister-in-law Dan and Jen Batkin, mother-in-law Sandy Batkin, and nieces Kayla Costanza, Karlie Costanza, Elizabeth Moore, and Lindsay Batkin. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Evelyn Costanza, and father-in-law Dan Batkin Sr. Greg also leaves behind his precious dog, Blossom, who will miss napping with her daddy every day.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 11 at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, located at 232 Chapel St, in Norfolk, VA. After the Mass, the family will be receiving visitors at Mrs. Batkin's residence, address to be provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Divided Sky Foundation or Waterwheel Foundation, two worthy causes with connections to his Phish family, or to the Norfolk Animal Care Center.

The family would like to thank the compassionate ICU staff at Senara Leigh Hospital for sharing such kindness and care during Greg's hospitalization.
