Charles Wimer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home - Tidewater Drive Chapel on Feb. 27, 2026.
Charles Wimer, affectionately known as "Chuck" or "Gramps," age 81, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was born on August 13, 1944, in Ellwood City, PA the son of Charles W. Wimer and Bernice Wimer.

Gramps was a humble and selfless man, always willing to share his time, talents, and treasures with those he loved. His tenacity, patience, and meticulous attention to detail contributed to a distinguished banking career that spanned over five decades, rising from teller to CFO at nationally recognized banks such as Monarch and Access National.

In addition, he answered the call to serve his country during the Vietnam War, serving as a helicopter air crewman stationed in Fort Benning, GA.

Gramps loved to fish the Potomac River, Northern Neck, and Sandbridge, Virginia Beach. He especially enjoyed sharing his fishing knowledge and experiences with his grandchildren, wife, and son-in-law.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Cox, Elva McCullogh, Vivian Heaton and brother, Everett Wimer.

Gramps is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Virginia Lee Wimer; daughters, Karen Tarran and Donna Berbert, son (son-in law) Louie F. Berbert; grandchildren, Carly Wimer and Louie C. Berbert; and his sisters Beverly Vaughn, of DeBary, Florida and Cheryl Wimer, of Winchester, Virginia

Gramps touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His selflessness and generous spirit will be remembered always. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family, inspiring all who knew him.

A graveside service will held 11:30am, Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Pricncess Anne Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Fond memories may be shared with the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
