Kaye Frances Walker Mitchell

Virginia Beach - Kaye Frances Walker Mitchell, 75, passed away Oct. 2, 2016. Born and raised in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, she was an outgoing southern bell always full of life. Residing in Virginia Beach for 47 years she was named outstanding young woman of Virginia Beach in 1975. She loved working in her yard and was a member of Princess Anne Garden Club for many years. She was a dedicated Christian and past Sunday School teacher at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church. She was a 48 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Some of her proud DAR accomplishments were, State Outstanding Junior Member, 1974, Bicentennial Regent, Princess Anne County Chapter, 1974 1976, Organizing Chapter Regent, Francis Land Chapter, 1983 1986, VADAR State Historian, NSDAR Continental Congress Page, VADAR State Conference Page, Personal Page to President General NSDAR, Marion Duncan Smith, Chapter Regent, Francis Land Chapter, 2007 2013, current Corresponding Secretary, Francis Land Chapter and Honorary Regent, Francis Land. She was also a previous docent at the historic Francis Land House. Her love for helping others directed her to a career as a Development Fundraiser Coordinator with Hope House Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. She retired in 2004 after 17 wonderful years. Kaye is preceded in death by her Father, Thomas Erastus Walker, Mother, Ethel Marie Walker, and half-sister, Meredith Amos. She was a loving wife, adoring mother, and wonderful sister who is survived by her husband of 53 years, Everett Alston Mitchell, Jr., daughter, Janevette Kaye Mitchell Hutchinson, and her husband Mark Raymond Hutchinson, Sister, Janet Gayle Walker Duncan and her husband, Dennis Duncan, Brother, Kenneth Glenn Walker and his wife, Lucille Middleton Walker, and half-brother, Tommy Walker and his wife, Anne, plus numerous nieces and nephews she loved dearly as well as her two poodles, Chanelle, and Tory and one Granddog, Ella. She was a wonderful light whose glow is now dimmer, but can never be extinguished by all the lives she touched in so many special ways. She will be truly missed, but always felt. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 4th, from 6:00 pm 8:00 pm, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., on Laskin Road and service will by Wednesday, Oct. 5th, at 2:00 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., followed by procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations in her memory to Hope House Foundation, 801 Boush St., Ste. 302, Norfolk, VA 23510.
