Cephas C. Wright Sr.

Portsmouth - Cephas Corliss Wright, 83 years old, died July 29, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving Wife, Jessie, and family. He was born in Portsmouth, VA He was the son of the late William and Amelia Wright. His sisters and brothers predeceased him in death: Mary, Martha, Amelia, Lucy, Eugene, Johnny, William, James and son Ronald Wright.

Cephas graduated from I. C. Norcom High School. He attended Norfolk State University. Cephas served in the United States Coast Guard. He worked for the U. S. Postal Service for 37 years. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He served as Post Commander with the American Legion Post 190 as well as the District Commander. He was a former Eagle Scout and worked with the Boy Scouts of America. He also did volunteer work for the American Red Cross.

Cephas is survived by his loving, caring and faithful wife Ms. Jessie, of 66 years; the last remaining brother, Roland Wright (Betty). This holy union yielded 10 children. Cassandra Johnson, Cephas Corliss Wright Jr., Sharon Scott (Gregg), Keith Wright (Sandra), Kelvin Wright (Janet),

Elder Michael Wright (Diana), Shawn Wright (Adlene) and Cevel Wright (Daddy-Lewis).

Cephas was a lifelong member of 1st Baptist Church Elm Avenue and many thanks go out to his late Pastor, Pastor Gregory Thomas.

The family would like to thank all of those who have called or come by to express their condolences to the family during their time of bereavement.

During this time of transition the family asks for your continuous prayers and privacy, allowing the family to grieve together for Gods strength.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1248 N. George Washington Hwy. Chesapeake. A Graveside Service will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services to handle the final care arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.jtfisherfuneralservices.com
