Michael Reidy Obituary

Michael Anthony Reidy, 75, of Virginia Beach joined our parents Elinor and Francis today July 30th. He is survived by his beloved dog Scruffer who was his soul mate and his brothers and sisters Francis, Kathleen, Dianne and Brian. Michael grew up in Havertown PA. Upon graduating from Haverford High School he then entered the Navy serving in South Carolina. After returning from active duty he was taught fine art and oil painting restoration by his father Francis, then took over his father's art gallery, McClee's in Haverford PA, upon his passing. He moved to Virginia Beach in 1997 where he continued doing restoration till his death. Michael was an active member of the A.R.E. and enjoyed just about anything having to do with the outdoors. He was an avid hiker and traveled the world, where he able to meet Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama. He was much loved and will be missed.

I would visit Michael just to hear him tell another great story of his life.
Where is my pal Scruffer?

Michael was a rakishly handsome fellow with a knowing twinkle in the eye that always seemed to hold the promise of some good mischief. A font of knowledge, always inquisitive and just plain curious, Michael was a kind gentleman of much refinement. i feel lucky to have made his acquaintance.
rest easy friend. Peace, Joey Mishkofski

I lived above the McClees Gallery for five years and ran into Michael often. Then after I graduated from PAFA I had the wonderful opportunity to work under him for several years and to learn something about art restoration. He taught me a lot. He was a most giving and kind spirited man, and a wonderful teacher. He had a twinkle in his eye most of the time. I always admired the unsigned painting that he hung in the bathroom in the gallery, because it reminded me of Stuart Davis' Gloucester paintings. Michael bequeathed it to me in 1996 with this inscription on the verso: "New England Coast, American Modernist, Circa 1920's, 1930's. Artist: Too Important to List Here! Merry Christmas Barbara." I loved what he wrote. I think of him often. I will miss him. Thank you Diane and Family for sending me the beautiful postcard with his picture.

Michael was such a gift to those he met and spent time with. He made a difference with his humor, caring, wisdom, friendship not just for me but for everyone he connected with. It was a blessing knowing him. The connection remains, it's just changed. I find peace, joy and love in the memories of times shared with Michael. He's never gone because he is in our hearts. My condolences to Michael's family and to the many who miss him.

I was very sad to note Mike’s passing in today’s Pilot.
I found him to be a kind and gentle man.
I was also totally impressed by his creative talents and knowledge of art.
I’ll always remember the beautiful artwork he proudly displayed throughout his home.
