Jean Kreiling Obituary

PEORIA - Jean Lorraine Kreiling of Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of Peoria, Ill., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at the age of 87. She was living in Arizona with her daughter, Jill, at the time of her passing.

Jean was born on Dec. 11, 1922, in Peoria. Her father's name was John Vonachen and her mother's name was Gertrude Rothan. She graduated from Peoria High. She was married for 62 years to Ernest Kreiling, also from Peoria.

Ernest and Jean both went to Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Jean graduated with a business degree, and they later moved to La Canada, Calif. They raised their two daughters, Cindy and Jill, in La Canada. Jean was a real estate agent and broker at Journey's End Realty in La Canada.

Jean and Ernie later retired in La Quinta, Calif. Jean loved the desert sun. She was involved in leadership in her church guild at St. Francis of Assisi in La Quinta.

Jean enjoyed traveling to other countries with her children and friends during her retirement. She loved to entertain her friends, try new adventures, dance, play cards, go muskie fishing with her relatives, and just have fun! She loved life to its fullest. She will be missed by all who knew her. Jean had a way of making a person feel special. Once you knew her, you were part of her life forever.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Belcher and Jill Barras (Gary Barras); six grandchildren, Jake, Georgia and Ted Belcher, Kelly Barras Williams and Ryan Williams, and Casey and Amy Barras; and a great-grandchild, Scarlet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Kreiling.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Faith Chapel at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills, Calif. A graveside service will follow. Flowers can be sent to Faith Chapel at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills.

Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Ariz.

Jean leaves us with so many fond memories, and she will be missed by all.

May God bless you in your hour of need. I will always remember my dear friend, Jean. I worked with her for 15 years and I enjoyed every time we got together and had lunch or dinner sometimes. She was the sweetest person I ever met.

Jean was indeed a very special person and did make everyone feel special. She was always full of life and filled any room she was in with hapiness. I will miss her Christmas updates! Heaven has another angel.
Watch out Ernie here comes Jean!

On behalf of the Lois Strassburger Kupfert (Bernard F) family, I send our sincere sympathy to Jean"s family. I hold dear our remembrance of the family reunion at Jumer's Restaurant when she was in Peoria and brought us all together.

The Rothan reunion she organized when she came to town for Peoria High's 150th anniversary brought together multiple generations. Our shared ancestor: Joseph Rothan, a Union soldier who came to Peoria after the Civil War. Family ties meant a lot.
