PEORIA - A.V. Adams, 82, of Peoria passed away peacefully at his residence at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014.
He was born on Feb. 2, 1932, to the late Abe Adams and Savannah Grayson in Rosedale, Miss. A.V. was married to the late Dorothy Adams (Anderson) for 46 years. She preceded him in death.
A.V. was the anchor of his family and enjoyed life. He was a natural athlete and a man of character who was one of the best pool shooters around. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1953 and was a member of the American Legion Post 1151.
A.V. was retired from Pabst Blue Ribbon for 22 years, later working for the Peoria Area Food Bank for nine years.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: two sons, Samuel Scott of China and Stanley Adams of Peoria, Ill.; one daughter, Alice Fay (David) Adams; one godson, Tony (Juanita) Foster; seven grandchildren, Christopher Adams, Chautauqua Hightower, Kinan Adams, Sean Adams, Kameron Adams, Ana Adams and Samuel Adams, all of Peoria; and nine great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who adored him and will miss him dearly.
A.V. was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and seven sisters.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Illinois Cancer Care Center, UnityPoint Health-Methodist Hospice and all of the family and friends who made his last days comfortable.
A home-going celebration will be at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Mt. Zion MB Church, with visitation commencing one hour prior at 11 a.m. Pastor Keith McDonald will officiate. Interment for A.V. will be Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Arrangements were made especially for A.V.'s family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.

Been out of pool leagues several years but still thought of A.V. guite often. Played on a few teams with him... And against him. I Always enjoyed running into him and am sorry that I hadn't seen him in a long time. We used to joke around a lot and I used to give him a hard time about all his different hats:-) What a great person. My sincere condolences.
