Mary Harris

1927 - 2021

Mary Harris was born March 12, 1927 in East Chicago, Indiana along with her twin sister Martha to the late Wade & Pearl Truttling. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in East Chicago. Mary graduated from East Chicago Washington High School. On March 6, 1951 she married Alonzo Harris and moved to Gary, Indiana where she resided over 65 years. Mary began her work career at Tolleston High School, with more than 30 years of faithful services. She then retired from the Gary Community School System. Mary made her transition February 22, 2021 at the Spring Mill Rehabilitation Center in Merrillville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband Alonzo Sr. and sons Alonzo, Jr. and Cyrus. Mary leaves to celebrated and cherish a well-lived life devoted son Steve (Rogina) Spencer; twin sister Martha Phillips of East Chicago, IN; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great child as well as a host of other family and friends. Visitation Wednesday March 3, 2021 from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. All Services at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Interment Evergreen Cemetery.
