Willie Sylvester Dowell was born July 4, 1945 to Sadie Dowell Dyson and the late Arthur Lee Wilson, Sr. of Covington, TN. He departed this life on Friday March 5, 2021. He was employed at US Steel Gary Works from 1968 to 2003. He was a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Gary, IN. Willie continues to live spiritually through his mother, Sadie Dowell Dyson; his wife, Ruby Dowell; daughters, Angela Dowell (Kentrick) Benson of Griffith, IN and Ilisha Dowell of Schererville, IN; sons, Rodney Dowell of Merrillville, IN and Shawron Hull of Portage, IN; his loving grandson, Aaron Lott, of Indianapolis, IN; special friend and companion Armelia Johnson; and friend Diane Pearson.Willie also leaves to cherish his siblings: sisters, Myra (Bob) Hampton of Franklin, TN, Faye (Charles) Barnes, Gary, IN, Christine Maclin and Debbie (Burnie) Griffith of Memphis, TN, Darnell Tipton, Melvyne Wilson, and Mae Lois Whitley all of Milwaukee, WI, Estella (James) Butler of Pontiac, MI, Doretha (Thomas) Johnson of Brighton, TN, Sandy Church of Nashville, TN, Clementine (Thomas) Macon of Lithia, FL, Connie (Marion) Drennan, and Glendora (Michael) White all of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers, Elisha (Veronica) Israel of Three Way, TN, Jeffery (Cheryl) McCollum of Memphis, TN, Arthur (Lois) Wilson, Jr of Milwaukee, WI, Ezell (Janet) Smith of Sparks, NV, Rufus (Sherry) Wilson of Bartlett, TN, Jimmy (Ava) Wilson of Antioch, TN, and Eunice Dyson of Covington, TN. His aunts, Norma Smith of Covington, TN and Ethel Jones of Pinola, MS; his uncle Eddie Nep (Willie) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation Monday, March 15, 2021 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services to follow at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1741 Fillmore Street, Gary, IN. Pastor Isaac Culver, Sr. officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park. Masks and Social Distancing required are required
