Reatha (Dear) Johnson, age 98 received her wings on January 8, 2019. As a young lady, Reatha relocated to Gary in the early 1940's working many jobs, including as a Cafeteria Matron for the Gary Public School Corp and later marrying the love of her life, Robert Johnson. Reatha was a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church for over 50+ years. She was preceded in death by parents John Lester and Elizabeth Butler, husband Robert Johnson, daughter Marybelle Williams, six grandchildren Sharon Thomas, James Cochran, Kelly Kirkwood, James Steele, Kevin Steele, Pamela Steele; 3 great-grandchildren Richard Gunn, Shannon Payne, Mark Douglas Jr. Reatha is survived by 3 daughters, Leola Jones, Ethel Kirkwood, Vernetta Thomas and a very special great-granddaughter Arlicia Thomas, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Thursday January 17, 2019 12-8pm. Family hours 6-8pm at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 W. 11th Ave. Funeral services Friday January 18, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church 1301 W 21St Ave. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
