Joan Marquardt Obituary

Joan Marquardt

Greenville - Joan Elizabeth Marquardt, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Monarch Meadows of St. Joseph Residence in New London.

Joan was born on September 26, 1939 in Wausau to the late Ervin and Gwendolyn (Schmieden) Aschbrenner. Joan grew up on the family farm surrounded by her many brothers and sisters. She was a 1957 graduate from Wausau High School. Following graduation, Joan was united in marriage to Vernon Marquardt on July 16, 1960, in Wausau. Joan and Vernon settled in Greenville and raised their three children, Jolene, Amy and Craig. Joan and Vernon recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Joan was a kind and loving soul, always placing her family first. This applied to both her immediate and extended family. Raising her family and family time were priorities for Joan. She made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She had a special gift with children and left a positive impact on many kids through the years with her work at Hortonville and Greenville schools.

Joan was also an immaculate housekeeper. Her home truly was her castle and she welcomed all. She enjoyed sharing her pool with family and friends throughout the summers. Joan had a way with children and this was on full display when her grandkids and great-grandkids would come to visit. She was active and supportive of everyone's pursuits and could be found at numerous sporting events, dance recitals, church programs, band concerts, choir recitals, etc.

Grandma Joan also enjoyed playing cards and games with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She enjoyed hosting many Holiday traditions and summer cookouts and pool parties with her family.

Joan worked as a teacher's aide for the Hortonville School District for 28 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement, Joan was active in volunteering in her community.

Joan was a devout Christian and active member at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greenville since its founding in 1973. Her faith in the Lord carried her through until Wednesday when the Lord called her home.

Joan is survived by her husband, Vernon; children, son-in-law Stan (Pam) Dorn, daughter Amy (Mark) Ahrens and son Craig (Kristin) Marquardt; grandchildren, Travis and Josh Dorn, and Danielle (Dural) Morris, Ashley and Kayla Ahrens and Karlie, Kenzie and Christopher Marquardt; great-grandchildren, Parker Ahrens and Noah and Moriah Morris; brothers, Kenneth (Marlene) Aschbrenner, Allen (MaryAnn) Aschbrenner, Larry (Carol) Aschbrenner, Leon (Kitty) Aschbrenner, Rodney (Lorna) Aschbrenner, Warren (Suzanne) Aschbrenner and Roy (Barb) Aschbrenner and sisters, Joyce Oelke, Marlene (Duke) Thurs and Lois (Ron) Higgins.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Ervin and Gwendolyn Aschbrenner; brothers, Donald, Gene, Dale and Fred Aschbrenner; sisters, Beverly Albrecht and Geraldine Wood; Daughter Jolene Dorn; and Grandchild, Calliope Jo Marquardt.

We would like to thank the staff at Monarch Meadows, St. Joseph Residence and Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care for their care and support.

Special thanks to Nurse Kayla Ahrens for her compassionate care. Kayla had multiple roles at the nursing home from a professional standpoint, but her role as Granddaughter was vital to providing the family love that others could not during the COVID lockdown.

The funeral service for Joan will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Shepherd of the Hills, Greenville with Rev. Chad Starfeldt officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Ellington Cemetery, Town of Ellington.

I always loved Joan! She had such a good sense of humor! I am going to miss her, but am comforted in the knowledge that she's in such a better place. Imagine being with Jesus! What could be better? Good bye Aunt Joan, until we meet again!!! XXX OOO
