DANIEL HERCHENROETHER Obituary
Age 60, died peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018 in St. Louis, MO. Beloved father of Amy Herchenroether of St. Louis, MO and Benjamin Herchenroether of Boston, MA; son of Henry C. and the late Nell (Young) Herchenroether; brother of Richard Henry (Sue), and Peter Young (Susan) Herchenroether; former husband of Wendy Herchenroether; also survived by nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Dan graduated from Westminster College with a B.S. in Computer Science. He later earned an M.B.A. from Katz Graduate School of Business, as well as a Master's in Education Technology from Duquesne University. He spent much of his career working in leadership roles in the software industry and later worked as a computer literacy instructor. Dan published his first novel, "Selling Air," in 2004. He enjoyed biking, glassblowing, and spending time with his children. Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, 7501 Church Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202, from 10 a.m. until time of the Memorial Service celebrating his life at 11 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC., 529 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. I worked with Dan at NeXT and Active Software and enjoyed the time spent with him and benefited from his competence. I will hold him in the light and my condolences to his family.

Words can not express how deeply saddened my heart feels about Dan's passing. He was a wonderful, compassionate, loving, caring gentleman that touched many hearts. He will be truly missed. My thoughts, prayers, are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

I know I speak for many of the colleagues Dan and I worked with at both NeXT and Active Software in the period 1990-2001. Dan was a smart, talented and loyal part of the team. He hired and managed many of the field-based systems engineers that were essential to closing large deals with many high-profile accounts. I was particularly lucky to have teamed with Dan to manage some amazing people, while working closely with the likes of Steve Jobs, and Jim and Rafael at ASWX. . Dan might have called the 90's the happiest and most productive decade of his professional life, because it was for me, and in no small part thanks to the guy I called Herch! I loved and admired him, and felt helpless as his health failed. My deep condolences to Ben, Amy and their Mom Wendy, as well as the rest of Dan's family. Sincerely, Tom Looney

There are so many great memories I can reflect o. Dan was a great friend who loved his family so very much. There was not a conversation where his beloved Pirates or Penguins did not come up.
He will be missed. Our condolences and sympathies to his family.
