Age 75, died peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2019. Born in Wheeling, WV on January 31, 1944. His family moved to Puerto Rico in 1957, where he later met the love of his life, Jacqui on a blind date in San Juan, PR. He graduated from Kenyon College in 1965, and from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1969. Hank served his residency in Pediatrics and had additional training in Neurology at UPMC. He was board certified in Pediatrics, Neurology, and Electromyography. After serving as a Major in the United States Air Force from 1972-1974 as the base pediatrician at Lockbourne AFB, he spent his entire career on the faculty of UPMC at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He also served as the Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. Western PA. Hank was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, and was active in the KAIROS prison ministry during his final years. He was an enthusiastic John Deere collector and enjoyed country music, especially Terri Clark. He loved interacting with children throughout his career and was grateful for the opportunity in retirement to sponsor several hundred orphans in Kenya through the ZOE ministry. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Jacqueline, of Sunbury, OH; daughter, Laura (John) Cornely of Lewis Center, OH; granddaughters, Caroline, Charlotte, and Cate Cornely; and brother, Richard (Sandy) Wessel of Atlanta, GA. Celebration of Life Service, 10 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Sunbury United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cherry Street, (at SR 3), Sunbury, where the family will be receiving visitors from 9 a.m., until the time of service. Pastor Michael Mack officiating. My condolences and prayers are with Hank's family. I enjoyed and appreciated my knowing Hank through the Northeast Ohio 2 Cylinder Club and then through the family of Brandon Cooper. I had many great conversations with Hank. He was a great gentleman to know. He is now in God's hands in a much better place.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Wessel. We initially met when I worked at Children's Hospital. As a unit clerk I was impressed with and appreciative of his penmanship. It was so neat and legible. Later he took care of my husband and 2 of our children. They had an illness that fell under MDA. I truly appreciate the care he afforded them. And the support he gave me! To his wife and family remember to lean on the LORD. Only HE can provide a peace that surpasses all understanding! Be blessed! Linda Fleming Heath.

So very sorry to hear of Hank's passing, Jacqui. His curious, brilliant mind always added so much to our Sunday School class discussions many years ago at Bakerstown. May God give you and your family peace and lasting comfort during this difficult time. Blessings to all, Patsie

Such fond memories with a wonderful man and family. I am lucky to have those memories and to have spent so much time with him growing up! He may be why I LOVE anything country/outdoors and country music today! My deepest sympathies and thoughts are with you all! xoxo

Oh what all to say. It was wonderful for my children to have their own personal pediatric neurologist. Hank would not share his Chinese dish with me though when we went out to dinner. I remember how he amazed me with his apple computer and its spell check feature so many years ago. And, what a wonderful family he nurtured. Bill Connors from Fawn Haven PA.

Hank will forever be a wonderful friend to me. I'm most certain that his heavenly homecoming will resemble a concert, with Hank in the front row, right in the center. Oh, how we all will miss seeing him. His kindness, love, and friendship will never be forgotten. ~Dar Phillips

It was an honor to have known Hank. We met him through the Terri Clark fan family, and he was always a pleasure to be around with his humor, and always greeted us with a big hug. He'll be sorely missed. Prayers and thoughts to his family. What a fascinating life he lead.....of course! :-)
