JEAN
Age 83, on Wednesday, September 4, 2002, Jean of Maplewood, NJ; beloved wife of Joseph; devoted mother of Judith Springer, Gene and Larry Lempert; dear sister of Bob Handler; loving grandmother of Eve, Shellie, Peter, David, and Sam. Jean was a life member of the League of Women Voters, life member of Hadassah, member of Zionist Organization of America, past President of League of Women Voters in Elmira, NY and Pgh., PA. She was the co-founder of Penn Hills Assoc. for Racial Equality (Penn Hills, PA). Funeral Services conducted from MENORAH CHAPELS at MILLBURN, 2950 Vauxhall Rd., Union, NJ, on Mon. Sept. 9, 2002, at 1 pm. Interment Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Donations in Jeans honor may be made to the Hadassah Medical Organization, 50 W. 58th St., NY,NY 10019-2500.

Jean was my mentor, colleague, and friend in the League of Women Voters in Pittsburgh. It was a privilege to work with her. Her intelligence and commitment were an inspiration. When we worked closely together in the early 70s, we talked often about our families, and though I don't believe I ever met her children, I almost felt that I knew them. My deepest condolences to Joe and to Jean and Joe's children and grandchildren.
