JUNE SCHULBERG Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 8 to Nov. 14, 2016.
SCHULBERG
JUNE S.
June 16, 1929 - November 5, 2016. A life rich with treasured friends and family and filled with adventures that as a young girl she never could have imagined ended peacefully in June's adopted home of Delray Beach, Florida on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Long before she became a respected pioneer in the legal community, she raised two young boys as a single mother while attending both college and law school at night. She worked as an executive secretary at Crown Aluminum in the early 1960s where her boss, Lou Hirsch, let her leave work a little early so she could attend her classes. Graduating from Duquesne Law School in 1969 at a time when very few women practiced law, she embarked upon a legal career which first saw her work with Dr. Cyril Wecht as his Chief Deputy Coroner and ultimately lead to a successful career in family law, culminating in forming a law firm that included her friends and partners, Carol McCarthy and Peggy Joy. Cyril and his wife Sigrid, Carol, Peggy, and many other colleagues remained lifelong friends. June also dedicated herself to the Allegheny County Bar Association where she served for a number of years on the Board of Governors and worked tirelessly and lovingly with the ACBA Players at the annual Bench-Bar Conference for more than 20 years. She was recognized for her dedication and service to the Bar Association and particularly the Bench-Bar Conference with the presentation of the Amram Award. She was also chosen for admission to the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County in recognition of her superior trial skills. She immediately became active in its governance and was elected as its first woman President in 1995. She was a friend, role model and mentor to many women attorneys. Travel was an especially important part of her life. She visited the Far East, the Middle East, Australia and numerous countries throughout Europe. Whether by plane, train, bus or car she tried to include some travel every year. The highlight of her travels was the two trips she took to what was then the Soviet Union to offer support to the Jewish community (Refuseniks) who were denied permission to emigrate to Israel. June had so many treasured friends (you all know who you are) because you could always count on her for interesting conversation, good direct advice, laughter and love. June will also be missed by QVC and United Parcel Service, both of which benefitted greatly from her regular shopping orders. June was the daughter of Arnold and Rose Schilit. She was preceded in death by her sister, Fay. She is survived by two sons, Arnold (Kathy) and Howard (Patti); her wonderful and could do-no-wrong grandchildren, Alec and Dinah; and numerous nephews and nieces; great-nephews and great-nieces. There will be no funeral service or visitation. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. The family suggests contributions in June's memory to: ACLU Foundation of Pennsylvania, P.O. Box 60173, Philadelphia, PA 19102 or American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.

Mw deepest sympathy. It is several years since I saw June and it was not on Grant Street but in a Paris subway station. We had several cases together when we were both "younger" lawyers . I will miss her.

Arnie and Howie,

There are no words that can describe your one in a billion mother. As you know, she was a freshman when I was a senior in law school and we met in the moot court competition where she was the defendant and I was the plaintiff's lawyer. Our friendship began then and never ended. She taught me how to be an accountable and trustworthy person in the business world which we referred to as the practice of law. You were such a loving family and oh how she loved you two, you made her proud. I will always be grateful that God allowed her to be a part of my life. My best regards and deepest condolences for your great loss. Candy sends her love and condolences also. May God bless all of you.

Howie and Arnie:

Your mom represented me through a very difficult time many years ago and became a great friend and advisor for many years after that. She was a great lawyer and a great person who was always happy to see me and find out the latest with my boys. Please accept my condolences on her passing. She will be missed and remembered. Best to you both and your families.

I met June when I started working in court in 1980. She was such a first-class lady! It was a pleasure to work with her for so many years...honestly, one of the best in her field.
Howard, please accept my condolences.

Deepest sympathy to dear June's family. I met her years ago when on the same charitable Board together, and we remained friends for all these years. Every winter we looked forward to meeting with June for lunch in Florida. Phone conversations throughout the year were joyous , funny and endearing, as all who knew her would attest. A fond farewell to an extraordinary woman - Love you June!!
