Dear Mom, Aunt Ceil, Cousins and families:

I am deeply saddened by Aunt Lills passing. Tom really captured her essence, as you have in the beautiful portrait you have chosen. And as documented in the obituary, Aunt Lill was a woman of great determination who not only had a solid career at the Smithsonian but also became a published author. No small feat while raising a family, assisting Uncle Joe with house construction, taking care of Grandpa for a while, and finishing a degree at GMU! Nonetheless, she always found time to remember every niece, nephew, etc. during the holidays.

Aunt Lill and I shared a special relationship due to our mutual early interest in space exploration and our respective careers in the museum business. Her creative imagination and writing style always impressed me: she related descriptive tales of her youthbombing Japan with Uncle Bob in his big room in the rectory in Clairton, or the challenges of building her house in Springfield (then a heavily wooded rural area outside of DC)with colorful verbiage that enthralled me. In many ways Aunt Lill inspired me in ways she did not even know.

But it is her big heart that takes up the greatest chunk of real estate in my recollections. She would empathize as I related my teenage broken heart or, in later years, discussed the realities of the museum field that only an insider could know. In recent years when I lived in Virginia we spent many an evening talking late into the night, long after everyone had retired. I will never forget those evenings. Over the decades of knowing her I will always cherish Aunt Lills warmth, her smile and her big heart. Godspeed, dearest Aunt Lill, until we meet again.

With much love, Jeanne Marie

Dear Aunts Joan and Ceil, Cousins, and your extended families,

It's with a heavy heart that I write this note of condolence; Dawn, Maria and I were deeply saddened to hear of Aunt Lil's passing. And while its been years since we lost Grandpa, (our Grandma, whom I never met), Uncles John, Walt, Joe and my Dad, I hope we all share the same sentiment that they are now all re-united with one another in heaven.

Aunt Lil was a special lady, strong yet kind, traditional but open minded, and always warm and approachable.

The picture you picked of her perfectly captured her charming smile, I think that was the exact expression she had on her face whenever we arrived to visit in Virginia or you all came up to Wheeling for the many wonderful Thanksgiving Reunions we shared.

Aunt Lil always spoke fondly of her recollections of her youth when she and my Dad used to make-believe they were astronauts travelling through space in their pretend spaceship in their home growing up, exploring far away galaxies. She told me these early childhood memories ultimately helped to guide her to her career in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

May God bless and keep her. Eternal rest grant unto her, Oh Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Vichnaya Pamyat!

Aunt Lil always spoke fondly of her recollections of her youth when she and my Dad used to make-believe they were astronauts travelling through space in their pretend spaceship in their home growing up, "exploring" far away galaxies. What an imagination they had - as all of that was before the X-1, Gemini, the Apollo program, the moon landings, and the Space Shuttle. She told me that these early childhood memories ultimately helped to guide her to her career at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

May God bless and keep her. Eternal rest grant unto her, Oh Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
