BLAIR
ETHYL
Passed away peacefully on January 24, 2007 in Austin, Texas. She is survived by her son, Robert, and her daughter, Sheryl. She had 4 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. Ethyl was born in Pittsburgh, on March 7, 1916. She lived on the North Side near Perrysville Avenue and East Street. She attended Perrysville High School and graduated in 1934. She met her future husband, Robert Fire Blair, at Perrysville High in her Freshman year. Mr. Blair, like many, was forced to drop out to help his family survive. Ethyl took a job at Joseph Horne and Company upon graduation. She and Robert spent many Sundays at North Park together. She and Robert F. Blair were married in August of 1937, followed by a luncheon at the Pines Restaurant on the Perry Highway. Mr. Blair, of West View, took a job after WWII with Buick Motor Division and the couple left Pittsburgh in 1949 when Mr. Blair was promoted to Buick Zone Manager in Detroit Michigan. The family moved to a suburban New York City home in Connecticut in 1956, back to Michigan in 1961, and then finally retired in 1965 in Florida. Ethyl was a skilled arts and crafts artisan, first with clay, then with decoupage, and finally making her own jewelry. She was also an expert gardener and a member of Boca Raton Garden Club for many years. Prior to a severe shoulder injury she was a fine golfer at Tamarack Country Club in Fort Lauderdale with a 16 handicap. Ethyl was a genuine music lover and enjoyed popular big band music, crooners Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby and her favorite Rosemary Clooney. Although her husband passed away in 2003, Ethyl spent her final years enjoying the company of her son, Robert, and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Blair. She is already missed in her assisted living residence of Vista Oaks, in Lakeway Texas. She spent hours riding with Robert and taking drives in the Austin area and especially loved seeing the spring flowers along the colorful Texas highways and byways. She waited 57 years to come home to her beloved Pittsburgh and she will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at ORION C. PINKERTON F.H. INC. followed by a burial service, Monday, January 29 at Union Dale Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Ethyl will be laid to rest near her beloved mother Adele, and her sister who preceded her in passing, Lois Wilson. She was the eldest survivor of her family that also included two brothers Bert and Jack Kenmore.

I came across this death notice of Ethyl quite by accident. I am so sorry, Rob and Sheryl for your loss. Your mother sounds like she had a long and happy life. I don't know if you'll see this note, but I am writing it in the hope that you will.
