I worked with Mary Jane on the 100th anniversary of the Opera House fire with the Boyertown Historical Society. She was such a lovely and gracious woman. She always had a smile on her face and I really enjoyed getting to know her. My sympathy to her entire family and all her friends. What a wonderful life she lived!

I have such fond memories of MJ! I was her daughter Stephanie's friend in high school and I spent many MANY weekends at the Schneider house in the woods, playing peonuckle and hanging out with their Great Dane draped across my lap. Good times! And MJ was so warm and accepting, I always felt welcome there, like I was just another one of the kids. I remember at some point reading stories she'd written about each of her children when they were babies, and how each one had their own special baby language before they could talk properly. I know there was a lot more than that in those stories, but that is the detail that stayed with me and, to me, symbolized one of her strengths as a mom; that she was careful to treat each of her kids as individuals and make them all feel seen and known, and not just part of the rabble. I remember MJ as a truly remarkable person. I hope the gathering brings you all some peace of mind.

My sincere sympathy to MJ's family. She was my good friend and mentor for many years. I met her in the early 1980's at a creative writing class she taught in Boyertown, and she just recently critiqued a piece I wrote for my class here in Denver, CO. I will miss her; even though we were so many miles apart we stayed in touch. God bless all of her family. My prayers are with you.
