Donald Smith Obituary

Donald Alden Smith

Wappingers Falls - Donald Alden Smith, also known as "Smitty" or "Butchy", age 69, died on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in his home.

Smitty was born April 8, 1948 in Norwich, CT. He attended Beacon High School and later enlisted in the United States Marines and proudly served his country. He enjoyed working at VA Medical Centers at both Castle Point and Montrose Hospitals for 44 years and retired in 2012. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and crabbing.

He is survived by his first wife Beverly Bettina and their two daughters Melanie Fabrizio and husband Angelo, Melinda Thomas and fiancé Alfonso LoCicero, sister Sandra Erikson, grandchildren Angelo, Dominique, Adriana, Anthony, Aliyah, Andrew, and nephews. He remarried Candy Fisher on July 2, 2005 and is survived by his stepdaughters Stephanie and Tina Tompkins, and stepson Thomas Tompkins. He was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Barwell, father Alden Smith and by his wife Candy Fisher Smith.

Smitty always said he didn't want his death to be mourned, but his life to be celebrated. Smitty requested that his ashes be combined with his wife Candy's and spread in three locations. The Hudson, Mount Beacon where he used to take the dune buggies, and the Catskill Mountains so they can keep hunting and fishing and always be together. At Smitty's request no services will be held.
