Mary Jo Small

Mary Jo Small, 72, of Iowa City died Friday, December 25, 2009 at UIHC of complications from a stroke.
Born Mary Johanna O'Callaghan on February 5, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the eldest child of Robert and Johanna Rigney O'Callaghan. She was united in marriage to Arthur Adams Small Jr. on November 26, 1960 in Cincinnati.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Arthur of Iowa City; by their adult children Peter Adams Small of Iowa City, Martha Kennedy Small of Ft. Collins, CO, and Arthur Adams Small III, of State College, PA; by four grandchildren; and by brothers Robert, Michael and Patrick O'Callaghan and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Ave, Coralville with the Rev. David Hitch officiating, followed by a reception at the UI Athletic Club, 1360 Melrose Ave, Iowa City In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mary Jo Small Fellowship Award c/o The University of Iowa Foundation, www.uifoundation.org, 1 West Park Rd, Iowa City, Iowa 52244.
