Frank Petrulis Obituary

Petrulis, Frank Charles

Vestal: Frank Charles Petrulis, born in 1927, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2014, at Emeritus at Woodland, Vestal. Frank was a lifelong learner, cultured and a world traveler. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Theresa (Gobish) Petrulis and his second wife, Dorothy (Meyers) Petrulis. Frank is survived by his wife, Carol C. (Baker) Petrulis; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frank Edward Petrulis and David and Cheryl Petrulis; as well as his sister, Florence Petrulis of Sherman Oaks, CA. Frank was extremely proud of Carol's sons, Jerrold (Lori), Martin (Kaoru) and Craig Baker and grandchildren; Miles, Amelia and Eliza Baker. Frank was especially proud of his Lithuanian heritage. He graduated from East Orange (NJ) High School and was a veteran, serving during WWII in the U.S. Navy Air Force. Frank attended Cornell University on the GI Bill and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering in 1951-1952. He also held a Master's in Business Management from Syracuse University. His careers involved working in the Space Design Program with the Douglas Corporation Thor Rocket team in California and Cape Canaveral, FL. Frank returned to this area in 1960, doing research work for IBM on the wire type printer. In the 70's, Frank became principal and co-founder of EURAMCO with architect Tony Lucas. They provided engineering and design services locally for over fifteen years. Past memberships included ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), the Binghamton Club, Lyceum, Harpur Forum, United Nations/USA, Union of Concerned Scientists, and the World Futurist Society. For many years, Frank enjoyed attending performances of the Tri-Cities Opera and the Binghamton Philharmonic. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 1-3 p.m. At Frank's request, there will be no funeral and his cremains will be buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Ithaca. His family wants to thank the entire staff of Emeritus at Woodland for their loving care of our dad and husband. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 59 Court St., Binghamton, NY 13901 or the Alzheimer's Association, 401 Hayes Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
