Joseph Kovarik Obituary
Joe was a graduate of Alfred University. Upon graduation he entered the family business where he would eventually become the owner and operator of Kovarik True Value Hardware. Over the years, he consistently supported the community by opening during emergencies, getting inventory during nearly impossible situations, and lending a hand to those that needed it. Some of the organizations he was involved with include, the Boy Scoutsof America and the Marine Corps.
He was an avid guitarist, skier, and golfer. During his free time, he could often be found strumming his guitar on his front porch, skiing Greek Peak, or teeing off at Ely Park. In 2018, he fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams and played in the pro-am tournament at Enjoie Golf course. But, by far, his greatest joy was his family. Some of the greatest memories with them was vacationing on the beach in Cape May, New Jersey.
His family would like to thank his caregivers, Tyler Colburn and Evelyn Hardy. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

I have so many fond memories of Joe and the times I spent in the Kovarik household when I was growing up in Binghamton's First Ward and hanging out with my best friend-Debbie. We at White Birch Lake, Windsor, was saddened to hear of Joe's passing on February 23. Joe was a continual supporter of the Lake and its Association even though he did not spend much time her as he was always working at the store. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Kovarik family.

So sorry to hear this news through a mutual friend. I attended Alfred when Joe was there, and he lived in an apartment next to mine for a time. I remember him as an energetic and funny guy. To the Kovarik family -- It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of Joe,Jr. sometimes tragedies take place , we ask why but there is no answer. During all the time I worked with the family Joe and everyone else made me feel almost as if I was a member of the family. The way Joe, JR. would answer the phone when he knew it was me. His warmth, goodness and kindness was apparent in everything he did. I still remember the wonderful days I played golf with Joe and his dad, those were really special times. We were better because he was among us and we will all grieve because he is no longer here. I always felt he was my friend and I will also miss him. Joe Jr. was always upbeat, knowledgeable, and fun to be around, even to me as a customer. He was also very supportive of VINES Gardens and the Dept of Public Art murals and many other local groups. Kovarik's is such a wonderful store to have in the neighborhood. We are lucky that his sister Debbie has kept such a wonderful institution alive. Condolences to his family and the great employees.

In customer service and had so many happy Conversations with him.
He always made me laugh.
Finally got to met him at one of the shows.

Joe was such a kind, quiet man and was willing to help us non-construction types as myself. Whenever I had a question I knew exactly who to ask and where to find him on his high stool overlooking the second floor of the store. Kovarik’s has been a a keystone store in the first ward for as long as I can remember. I’d ask how he was doing every time I went in. Kovarik’s was like the Philly Sales of hardware. Will miss Joe. the VFW Aux. had fund raisers at Kovariks Twice. Joe was so helpful to us letting us use the popcorn machine and donated the popcorn. We made a lot of money for our veterans outside the store. He was a veteran and never forgot his buddies. Super guy. RIP. Dorolyn Perry, VFW Aux.1371.

Joe was such a kind and upbeat individual. Many times I’ve visited his store and he or his staff would help me find what I needed . He showed the same amount of attentiveness and enthusiasm when selling me a small box of wood screws as he did when I purchased larger, more expensive items.
