Harvey Jr., James H.

James H. Harvey, Jr., passed away on Saturday, 1 February 2014 after an eight year battle against lung cancer. Jim was predeceased by his parents, James H. Harvey, Sr. and Margaret (Milton) Harvey, his sister Miriam, and his son Kevin. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linnette (Hillary) Harvey, his daughter Karen and husband Vic of Darien, CT, son Stephen and wife Leslie of Port Orchard, WA, and his sisters Irene, Dorothy and Eleanor; daughter-in-law Esther. He was the proud grandfather of Jeremy and Jessie, Laura, Keith, Shannon, Sean, Meghan and Jim and great-grandfather of Jake, Jillian and Parker. Jim was born in Stamford, CT on February 21st, 1929. He graduated from Stamford High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1947. After boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, he was stationed at the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, DC. He was a member of the honor platoon at Eighth and I where he provided security and ceremonial honor functions at the White House, Arlington National Cemetery and at Camp David. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1950, and while on post discharge leave, he met Linnette while visiting a friend in Binghamton, NY. Jim and Linnette were married on April 21, 1951 and then moved to Connecticut. Jim began what was to become a twenty-two year career with the Darien Police Department in January 1956. After retirement from the police department, Jim and Linnette moved to Windsor, New York. He worked as a Security Officer for Singer Link in Binghamton and Dick's Sporting Goods Warehousing and Distribution. A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady Of Lourdes Church in Windsor, NY 594 Kent Street, Windsor, New York at 1:00 PM on Friday the 7th of February. The service will be preceded by a viewing and gathering of friends at 12:00 and there will be a reception at the church following the memorial mass. In lieu of flowers, Jim and his family would prefer that consideration be given to donating to either the Helping Hands of Broome County organization at www.helpinghandsofbroomecounty.com or to the Connecticut Frontotemporal Dementia Foundation, Inc. at www.ctftdfoundation.org. Jim was so strong through all he faced; still always wanting to do the things he couldn't because of his health! Linnette,you were so strong too and took the best care of him!
