Althea Clewell Obituary


Althea Myrtle Clewell
of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Althea Myrtle Clewell, 88, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and formerly of Endicott, N.Y., died Monday, February 25, 2008, at her home. She was born July 8, 1919 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the daughter of Harry and Myrtle Mabel Metzker Keirle. She graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and a longtime member of Union Presbyterian Church in Endicott, N.Y. She retired from the Trenton, N.J. School System, where she was a teacher. In earlier years, she enjoyed crafts and playing bridge. Mrs. Clewell and her husband, Robert Gordon Clewell moved to Oak Ridge about 3 ½ years ago from Endicott to be near their daughter. Mr. Clewell died November 28, 2004. She is survived by son, Robert Harry Clewell and wife, Regina, Rowley, Mass.; daughters, Susan Lee Walter and husband, Bob, Bouse, Ariz., and Cheryl Goforth and husband, David, Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Christine Clewell, Jeremiah Blackburn and wife, Julie, James Blackburn and Tyler Goforth; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Blackburn and Matthew Blackburn.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, Tenn., with Tyler Goforth officiating and Rev. Tim Stallings assisting. Mrs. Clewell will be buried alongside her husband in the Riverside Cemetery in Endicott, N.Y., at a later date. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 - 6 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
