Binghamton: Age 78, beloved Abuelita to all, passed away on Thursday, March 17th, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband, Julio Rivera; daughter, Miriam Del Valle; son, German Hernandez; son-in-law, Louis Del Valle; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her granddaughters, Ayana Del Valle-Ealy, Taina Del Valle-Asili, Michelle Quintana and Amy Diaz; great-grandchildren Yabisi Del Valle-Asili, Jesus Diaz and Klyse Quintana; step great-grandchildren Vito and Jada Ealy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria was born and raised in Puerto Rico. At the young age of 16, she moved to the US, landing in the lower-east side of New York City, where she lived for over 55 years. She proudly worked for the majority of her career as a school aid, where she was respected and adored by the children. She was a very active member of St. Mary's Church in NYC, and St. James Church in Binghamton, and was deeply committed to praising the Lord Jesus Christ for all of the blessings she received. She was a hardworking and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gloria, fondly called Abuelita by many, was best known for her incredible Puerto Rican cooking, which fed the bellies and the hearts of those who entered her home, always open to everyone. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday (today) at 2 pm from St. James Church, 155 Main Street, Johnson City. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings on the Hudson, NY at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott on Saturday evening (today) from 5-8 pm.
