Richard B. Mallinson

Binghamton - 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 11, 2018. He is survived by his wife Chai-Kyou Mallinson, who is a pianist and a retiree faculty member of Binghamton University (2014). Richard was born on July 10, 1938 in Wichita Falls, TX. He was the Valedictorian at Williamsport High School, Williamsport, PA (1956). He received his BA in Physics from Harvard University, Cambridge, M A (1960). He took graduate courses at Columbia University, NY (1962) and received his PhD in Physics from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA (1969). He worked on the Apollo Moon Landing Project for NASA, Houston, TX (1970-1974) and was a Senior Engineer/Senior Consultant at CAE-Link Corp. for 25 years. Richard was awarded the National Merit Scholarship to study at Harvard University (1956-1960) and the Inventor Recognition Awards for United States Patents three times. He was a brilliant physicist and mathematician. He was an avid mountain climber and passionate lover of classical music, especially Beethoven's music. Richard was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, the Adirondack Forty-Sixers Club, the Sierra Club and Triple Cities Hiking. He was a strong advocate for social justice and equality and volunteered for Citizen Action of NY, working for the local and national elections (2004-2012) and the NAACP as a long time Silver Life member. The family is grateful for the loving care he received in his final hours at Elizabeth Church Manor. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 24th, at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi, 1031 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY 13901.
