He was a member of the Johnson City Elks Club. In his spare time he enjoyed volunteering at the Endicott Performing Arts Center (which he helped restore as part of the original "dirty dozen"), building things in the shop, making improvements to his home, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday 7 p.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott with Reverend Daniel Eddings officiating. The family will receive friends at the memorial home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until service time at 7. Val and Maria,

Please accept our condolences on Jim's passing. It was our pleasure to be there for his services. Not a day goes by where we don't think about our time in Endicott and all the good fun (even though it was really all work) we had at EPAC.

Dear Val and Maria,
There are no words to adequately express how sad I am for you and for Gabe. He was a wonderful man. I met Gabe because of our mutual involvement with EPAC. He was so warm and friendly with a beautiful smile. Whenever I saw him at the theatre, we would swap stories about our kids. He would talk about Maria and I would talk about Kevin. Since our kids were close in age and both were "only" children, we had some commonality. Our last conversation was about the mixed emotions we both felt as our kids were growing up and becoming young adults. I was always touched by Gabe's openness and his genuine warmth. He was a wonderful man and it was easy to see that he deeply loved his wife and daughter. He always had a twinkle in his eye when he watched Maria on stage. Gabe will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Keeping all of you in my prayers.

Val and Maria,
It was an honor and a privilege to have been Jim's friend. I truly admired him. He brought so much insight to everything we talked about. I learned a lot from him and will miss him dearly. As you know, he faced many difficult challenges during his life. He always found a positive approach to those challenges. And so it was with this last challenge. He was always upbeat, positive, and hopeful. He displayed great courage and strength throughout his battle, and never once complained. He shared with me that he took stock of his life and summarized that it was a good life, a full life, and he had no regrets, because he was blessed with a great wife and a great daughter. He was very compassionate and showed me a level of compassion I had never thought much about. He loved the two of you more than you can ever know, and he was very proud of both of you. We called Jim our "historian". He was always teaching us something about the history of the world. Now he is a part of the history of my life, and I will forever miss him.

Dear Val and Maria,
I am so sorry for the tremedous loss of your husband and father. Jim had such a wonderful sense of humor and was just a plain, good guy. It was evident how much he loved you both and was so proud of Maria and her accomplishments. He would always beam while talking about her. I'll always remember the times he would call me at Brookside and try to disguise his voice and ask some annoying question, but I could usually tell it was him! The world was a better place with Jim in it, but now he is at peace and has no pain - a great relief! He will be your forever angel in heaven. My heart goes out to you both. God bless!

In my last scene as Yente, the Matchmaker in Fiddler on the Roof, I sadly look back at the house with Golde and Tevye standing in front packing their worldly belongings to leave all they've known and loved in Anetevka. There is no need for me to pull out my acting skills, because I'm looking at the very house that Jim designed and built and my heart swells with a sadness that feels unbearable. As I walk backstage I cry for that loss and the thought that I'll never hear that chuckle again. There is some comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in his many contributions to EPAC and the lasting relationships he inspired there. Val and Maria, we have all lost a very dear friend, but you have lost a precious husband and father. Our hearts go out to you and we wrap you in our loving arms of comfort. Be at peace knowing the big man with the even bigger heart is in a pain free world…..

Val and Maria,

You know I admire and respect Gabe and have for many years.I enjoyed working along side him during shows and our numerous rendezvous enjoying each others company and sharing a good laugh. Please be comforted in knowing, though not publicy, he touched many lives. Look around you. Look at the friends and family. Look at EPAC and the hundreds, thousands of people who have come in and out of those doors, not knowing Jim, but appreciating all he has done to make something beautiful and useful for others. He ..IS..a wonderful and loving man that I am proud to call friend. Until we meet again my wonderful and courageuos friend. Give Rob and everyone else a big ol' hug in heaven. Nikolatchka!!!

My father was the best anyone could've asked for. No matter what was wrong, he would sit me on his knee and hug me, and everything was okay. He was always smiling, joking around with us. He'll be greatly missed by so many people, but his memory will always live on through us all.
