I was in Mr. Demarta's photography and art class 72-73 at Kenilworth. He was an awesome teacher that cared for his students. I never have forgotten the influence he has made in my life. Condolences to his family and friends.
RIP, Mr. DeMarta

Of all the teachers I have had in my life few left as lasting of an impact that Mr.DeMarta! Seventh grade art, photography and yearbook were all great classes. I even student taught with him while in my junior year. I still shoot a lot of pictures and credit Mr. DeMarta for the love of photography. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Ray was the only man who called me a pretty broad and took it as a complement.

I, too, had Mr. DeMarta for 7th grade art class. I have always remembered him for his encouragement and kind ways. It is a true testament as a teacher that he is remembered so fondly by so many students. What a wonderful legacy he has left. My sympathies to his family.

I too, am one of Mr. DeMarta's former students. As difficult as junior high was, I found his art class to be a place where I could be myself and enjoy being creative. He was a kind and nurturing educator and will surely be missed by so many whose lives he touched.
My sincerest condolences to Ms. Larsen and the entire DeMarta family.
Sincerely,
Susan (Carr) Collins

I was proud to call Ray DeMarta a friend, mentor, and colleague from our first meeting in the faculty lounge at the old Kenilworth in 1977. I learned from Ray, and yet he always preserved the illusion that he was also learning from me. He was genuinely interested in everyone with whom he came in contact. His engaging and probing questions elicited stories from all of us who knew him. I remember, in particular, several extended conversations among teachers in the faculty lunchroom where he was the catalyst. Ray was about 9 to 13 years old during World War II. By chance, also on the KJHS faculty were two other teachers of approximately his age. Ray had spent the war in San Francisco. The two others I speak of spent those years, one in Munich and one in Tokyo. Those conversations were fascinating, revelatory, and respectful. I felt privileged to be present on those occasions.
I was also privileged to be in attendance with Ray at many celebrations, social gatherings, and parties. The man knew how to enjoy a good time. I loved him, and I'll miss him.

I was really saddened to hear of Mr. DeMarta passing away....he was my art teacher at Kenilworth Jr. High in Petaluma many many years ago (i am now 57) and i never forgot him or the impact he made on my life. Mr. DeMarta was always encouraging, supportive with a great sense of humor. He was one of those humans that always somehow leave an impact on your life no matter how old we become. I feel as tho i have lost a bit of my childhood in reading that he is now gone. He will never be forgotten by me and in sitting here typing this it has taken me back through time and the difference he made to me in my middle school years. I will never ever forget him and my sympathy goes out to his family and friends. He was one wonderful and amazing teacher who impacted my life. <3

I went out to Kenilworth while they were in the process of tearing down the building, I couldn't help but stop by the art room and say hello to Mr. DeMarta even though he hadn't been in the room for a very long time. I'll never forget his wit and his encouragement to all of us in 1973! He touched my heart and my memories in so many ways. God Bless him and his family at this sad time.
