TAMMIE DINGAS Obituary

Tammie Michelle Dingas, 42, of Prince George County, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012. Tammie attended Bollingbrook School, was a graduate of Saint Vincent de Paul High School and owner of Curl Up or Dye Beauty Salon in Old Towne Petersburg. She started her most successful hair stylist career at Scissors Unique and worked for 21 years as a master stylist at JC Penney Beauty Salon, Southpark Mall, Colonial Heights, Va., prior to achieving her career dream of owning her own successful salon. A most accomplished and amazingly talented artist, Tammie trained under Anna Lou Musgrove in Petersburg, Va. She loved animals and was making her home on her grandparent's Griffin Farm with many loveable creatures. She was a lifelong member of Gary's United Methodist Church. Tammie Dingas lived life to the fullest.

Cherishing so many special memories of a loving daughter are her parents, Brenda Griffin Dingas and Thomas George Dingas of Prince George; and of a loving sister, Tracey Dingas Allen and husband Andrew Lee Allen of Colonial Heights, and Teresa Dingas Williams and husband Christopher Jason Williams of Chesapeake, Va.; and the loves of her life, nieces and nephew, Griffin Delaney Williams, Wyatt Lee Allen and Clara James Williams. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother, Frances Sanford Dingas of Prince George; aunt, Mary Etta Griffin Kanusek of Disputanta; and uncle, Larry Douglas Dingas of Prince George. Tammie was loved and will always be remembered by her special Callis and Dingas cousins and a multitude of close friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Alpha Omega Callis Griffin and Patrick Snow Griffin; paternal grandfather, George Dingas; and uncle, Michael Wayne Dingas.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service, with the Reverend Henry Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tammie's memory may be made to Gary's United Methodist Church Building Fund, 13501 Sunnybrook Road, Petersburg, VA 23805 or the Petersburg Area Art League, 7 E. Old Street, Petersburg, VA 23803.

Tammie had been my hairdresser for about 10 years. I can't beleive she is gone. We enjoyed talking about our families, the country life, the state fair and many other things we had in common. I will always miss her. My prayers go out to her family.

Nary an hour passes that I don't still think of her. I let too much time pass without letting her know just how much I think of her, and how I appreciate her. In her prime, she was taken from her life, her family, friends and her work. The Good Lord must have needed someone very special back. We are left with memories of her laugh and her smile. We just have to dig through our pain and tears to get to them still.

Tammie you are a beautiful person and will be missed so so much you became a part of our family. The last thing you said to me was how Noah recognized your voice when you held and talked to him and he would smile real big you were so proud or just rubbing it in he hasn't smiled for me yet. But you how much you were loved by us and us by you we will miss you but will cherish you forever LOVE YOU

You gave me my first hair cut when I was one, and since then you have always inspired me to just be myself and not worry about anyone else. Because of you I will thrive to live life to the fullest. I have no idea who i'm gonna brag to about my new tattoos. You were the most free spirited person I have ever known. I will truly miss you, you are the best Tammie. You did and always will have a huge impact on my life.
Love you!

To all of the Dingas family and friends,
I wanted share this poem that was read at my father's funeral. It gives me some comfort and I hope it will do the same for you.

"Crossing the Bar"

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
    Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
    When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Tammie, I love that you set your own course and sailed it with a lust for life that no one can dispute. You wrote your own story and though you never expected your story to end, it ended with every one you touched knowing how special you were. Wyatt will always remember and love you. You were a force to be reckoned with and danced to your own beat and thats why everyone loved you, and thats why everyone will miss you!!!

Tommie & Brenda,
Words cannot express the shock I felt when told of Tammie's untimely passing. You and the girls' and their families and Aunt Frances are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Over the last day the memories have flooded through my mind of Tammie...her wonderful personality, amazing creativity, and true joy in living life! Tommie - I remember when you visited one Christmas and held one of the many baby dolls Santa had left at the Sanford house! Then not too long after you and Brenda had your first precious live baby doll! Tammie gave my oldest son, Daniel, his first haircut when he was 15 months old and she was still in beauty school...she cut Brittany's hair for her senior portraits...and in between there were the many dance recital "hairdos"! Another memory of Tammie fixing dance classmates hair and doing their makeup before we got down to the business of actually dancing will always make me smile! Tammie will forever be in my heart.

With love,

Joy

To the family and friends of Tammie Dingas ...

Tommie and Brenda, when you long to lean on trusted friends, remember we will always be near when you need a loving, caring hug. Our prayers and tears are with you, and we wish we could do more to help you get through the excruciating pain you are feeling in your hearts. When you tell each other that "this can't be for real", believe me, if anyone knows your feelings of a wounded heart, it's Jackie and me, as we have experienced life's pain of all pain, the tragic loss of a child. A day doesn't pass that we don't talk to her beautiful wall portrait. It's just not the same when someone tells you that they have lost a family member and know how you feel. Only you, a parent, and Our heavenly Father, who suffered losing His Son Jesus Christ, understands the personal emptiness and knows how you really feel when it's comes to your beautiful daughter. Just remember, our children are where we will be one day, GOD willing. They are rejoicing in GOD'S magnificence. That is what keeps us going from day to day. God bless and comfort you both. We love you guys. Russell and Jackie Davis

I met Tammie a long time ago and she has always been the sweeetest person. You could go for days or even years in between seeing her but when you did, she would always speak as though it had only been a few minutes. It's always hard to lose someone but its especially difficult when that someone is so young and full of life as Tammie was. My heartfelt condolences to her family as well as continued thoughts and prayers to guide you through this most difficult time!
