ROBERT L. WILLIAMS Sr.

Mr. Robert Lee Williams Sr., affectionately known as "Sugar Pig," 78, of Petersburg, Va., peacefully entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

Robert was born July 18, 1935, to the late Catherine and Tucker Williams. Robert was also preceded in death by his sons, Raymond Cook and Carlo Williams; stepfather, Stanley Howard; sisters, Mildred and Catherine Williams; a brother, Tucker Williams Jr.; uncles, Robert and Wallace Parham; father and mother-in-law, Aubrey and Ester Brown; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

Robert attended Peabody High School. He sang with several gospel groups, among them The Lamb of Joy and The Gospel Aires. He worked many jobs to support his family until his health started to decline. Sugar Pig was a member of the United House of Prayer, located in Hopewell, Va. He enjoyed fishing, singing, listening to gospel music and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, "Pa-Pa Babies!" In all, he was a loving and phenomenal man.

He is survived by a loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Mrs. Rosa Lee Williams; daughters, Denise (Bruce), Sanjenal (Dwight) and Stacy Williams, Sandra and Sheila Steward; sons, Robert Jr. and Eric Williams; 37 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; numerous adopted children and grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Peete; an aunt, Inez Parham; sisters-in-law, Florine Brown and Christine Parson; brothers-in-law, Arby Jr., Robert (Yvonne), Sherman (Janet) and John Henry Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, among them, Brother Mavis, Susie Kemp and Theodore Thomas.

Services for Mr. Robert L. "Sugar Pig" Williams will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va. Interment will be held noon Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
