John Colton Obituary

COLTON, JOHN PHILLIPS 79, of Duluth, GA and Saunderstown, RI died on November 8, 2015. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Paul Flood serving as Celebrant, burial at Arlington Memorial Park, Atlanta, GA. Mr. Colton, was born in New York City, the son of Wendell and Cornelia (Safford) Colton. He is a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, graduated from Brown University in 1958 and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. He is a U.S. Navy veteran, where he served as an airborne air controller with over 100 carrier landings. He was previously employed by Old Stone Bank for 18 years and retired from Eaton Financial / BankVest Capital, he held various positions within the leasing associations including AEL / UAEL and was President of the EAEL Association. He is the owner of Finer Point Pens. He was both a member and president of the Plum Beach Club. He was a loving husband, wonderful and most gracious father and grandfather to his wife of 52 years, Maureen Morrison Colton; daughter, Maribeth Colton Nickell; grandsons, Colton Kidd Nickell and Jansen Dean Nickell of Duluth, GA and Saunderstown, RI. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the John Hay Library at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00pm at Bill Head Funeral Homes & Crematory Duluth Chapel (770) 476-2535. A memorial service will be held in Rhode Island at a later date.
