To the Ridgely Family,
I met your parents in 2010 when I first visited them on behalf of Gilman. They were both delightful people. After that first visit, we corresponded by mail and I tried to get to Providence to see them, and then just your dad, at least once a year. He delighted in hearing about Gilman, and in telling me about his wonderful family and their accomplishments, and of his interest in birds and stamps, and of the house in New Hampshire. We had lunch last spring, and he was hopeful of getting up there one more time last summer. I hope he did. He was a lovely man who had a life well-lived, as the obituary sums up beautifully. I was very sorry to hear of his death. My condolences to the entire family.

Rest in peace Bev with your wife Barbara. Reading your obituary confirms a wonderful legacy of a life well lived. I enjoyed every word in the obituary and have shared it with my nine brothers and sisters. My thoughts and prayers are with your family who are so fortunate to have had such great parents. May they enjoy life everlasting in the kingdom heaven.

Wow, what an incredible life well lived and apparently enjoyed as well. Thanks for sharing the man behind the name. I worked at Brown from 83' thru 05' Not sure if our paths ever crossed. My loss for sure ! Oddly, I too collect stamps and have a great many of those " birds " as well. Godspeed Bev.

This is a fond and wonderful Obit for our former professor, neighbor, friend.
Bill Worthington took French from Bev as an undergraduate. Bev only taught at Brown, his whole career.
Our family and guests have all eaten some of the great food Barbara taught first my mother, then me to cook FRANCAIS in theIr big kitchen on Everett Avenue (across the street from my home of 40 years). She'd taken fabulous courses whem Bev had sabbaticals in France, and then taught local RI friends who were interested; she even held my place on the culinary waiting list until I had a sabbatical and could attend.
The folks and I also had the thrill of the Ridgelys' travel slides. They were the first people I knew who had been on Lindblad trips, who'd gone to the Galapagos, and to Antarctica (- even the Falklands/Malvinas). Breath-taking images.
I never saw the stamp collection, but Bev was certainly a world birder.' And a fan of Brown lacrosse - part of the loyal crowd who gathered at Aldrich Dexter with boullion on chilly autumn days, Chet and Diana, too.
What a great life! What a delightful man! I will miss finding him on campus or in the East side Market.
