The Douthitt's lived on what was a field of flowers next to our house. Our Dad sold the property to Jerry and we had new friends gowing next door. We went from the flowers we'd pick to the flowers that picked us.
Jerry would qualify as one of my personal "people you'll always remember." He was one of the first to offer a helping hand. His energy working in the yard tired ME out and I was a kid. If I had a question Jerry'd take a few minutes and answer it. From why a worm could still live if it was cut in half to would a egg really cook on hot blacktop? Once when I was about 12 I was cutting through Jerry and Thelma's backyard. They were sitting outside and quietly talking. I didn't want to bug them so I went back around their place another way. They were sitting in the almost darkness, leaning close to each other and they looked content. That is the image I have when I think of Jerry.
Caring, kind, thoughtful, generous and loving.
I wanted to share some memories of a kid who had a grown neighbor who treated her with respect. Jerry was a very positive influence on me. Thank you for sharing your Husband, your Dad and your friend. Jerry, you did a wonderful job.

Some lucky people win the lottery. My fortune was much better than that. I won the lottery of life when I met Jerry Douthitt. He took me under his wing and changed my life in ways I would never have believed possible. Jerry was the most positive person I have ever known. He made me believe in myself and made me believe there was nothing I couldn’t accomplish. When we were facing the most impossible situations he would say, “I think we’re going to get a break” and we always did. Jerry cared about people and family above all else. The way he treated people is an example to us all.
It is with great sorrow that we have to say good-bye to our dear friend and teacher, but as long as any of the many people whose lives he touched remain, he will live on.

I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING FOR JERRY DOUTHIT FOR TWENTY YEARS. HE WAS NOT ONLY THE BEST BOSS I HAVE EVER HAD - HE WAS TRULY "ONE OF A KIND". HERE AT PACKAGING TECHNOLOGIES, HE WAS A MOTIVATOR, MEDIATOR AND COUNSELOR TO MANY OF US. OVER THE YEARS, HE HELPED ME TO GROW BY PUSHING ME INTO DOING THINGS I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD DO. HE NOT ONLY HAD A BELIEF IN PEOPLE OF WHAT THEY WERE CAPABLE OF,HE KNEW HOW TO TEACH BY EXAMPLE. I COULD NEVER SAY ENOUGH
GOOD THINGS ABOUT JERRY AND I WANT THELMA AND HIS CHILDREN TO KNOW HOW WELL THOUGHT OF HE WAS BY ALL OF US THAT KNEW HIM HERE. HE WILL BE SO SO MISSED.

It was real sad to hear that Jerry had died. I worked with him at Kartridge Pak for 15 years before he retired. He was a great man and a true friend. I will truely miss him.

I was so saddened to read of Jerry's passing. My husband, Paul, passed away last year. He and Jerry were such good friends. Paul thought so much of Jerry when they worked together at KP. We moved to MN and unfortunately did not continue to keep in contact.
I send my deepest sympathy in your time of sorrow. The sorrow you feel now will increase many times over in the next few weeks, I certainly know that, but over time he lonliness will subside. I pray for you and your family.
Sincerely, Jan Trekell

It is hard to beleive that one of the finest men I have ever known has passed from this life to the next. I am deaply sorry that Jerry is gone. He taught me alot growing up next door to him. Things like life is short, take time to be with your family. I admired Jerry not for who he was but for the example he set forth to all of us in the neighborhood.
I am only sorry that I have lost touch with all of you over the years.
My Prayers are with you all in this time. Kerry
