Kenneth Rosenthal Obituary

Kenneth W. "Pat" Rosenthal October 28, 1924 - November 24, 2012 Pat died peacefully at his home in Middletown after spending the Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet; sons, Roger (Barbera) and David (Monica) of Middletown; daughters, Phyllis (JB) of Manteca; and Dorothy (Danny) of Sacramento; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pat was born in Berkeley and raised in Orinda, California. While growing up, he was a founding member of the first Boy Scout troop in Orinda (started by his father) where he grew to appreciate the great outdoors and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school, he served in the US Air Force as a tail gunner in a B-17 in the 379th bomb group, also known as the triangle K group. After surviving many missions, his plane was shot down and made a successful emergency landing in France. He finished his tour of duty as an instructor in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pat attended UC Berkeley where he received his engineering degree and more importantly, met his greatest love, Janet Loomis. After graduation, he went to work at Hunter's Point naval shipyard until it closed. His specialty was sound and vibration and he spent most of his time working at the "shock " facility and was also involved with interesting projects such as Sealab II. He finished his career at Mare Island and then "retired" in 1979 to become a full time vineyard owner/operator/worker. 2012 marked his 41st harvest and in October, he was still driving tractors and his forklift to load grape trucks. Pat stayed involved in the local community, attending many BOS and Planning Commission meetings as well as being a member of the first Middletown Area Plan committee in 1989. He will be missed by family and friends and the many people who spent time visiting with Pat while enjoying a weekend at "The Ranch" for parties and cross country running camps. A celebration of his life will be held on January 27, 2012, at the Lion's Club in Middletown from 1 - 4 p.m. All are welcome to stop by to celebrate the life of Pat. In honor of his memory, donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or your favorite charity. Please share your memories by signing the guest book at www.legacy.com.

Pat and I are first cousins, probably known him longer than anyone. He and I were the patriarchs of many a large family reunion in Middletown and Belvedere. He was a fine man full of humor and earthy intelligence. He will be missed and long remembered.

Thanks for the memories, the support and all the times you stopped to teach a life lesson. A little piece of you lives in a lot of people who you touched. Rest in Peace Dad
