Catherine Whelan Obituary
In addition to her parents and siblings, she leaves her loving grandparents, Jean (Parkinson) and William N. Whelan III, of New Bedford, Mass. and Alexandrina "Shandra" (Mongillo,) and John Folcik, of Southington; her aunts and uncles, Thomas and Sarah Whelan, Julie and Noel Hainsselin, and John and Kathy Folcik; and her cousins, Mitchell and Elise Whelan, and Christopher, Elizabeth, and Connor Hainsselin.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 247 North St., New Bedford, Mass. followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, Nov. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Mass. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Catherine Louise Whelan Memorial Scholarship Fund, 70 N. Second St., New Bedford, MA 02740. For directions and guestbook, please visit

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. In the two years that I was Catherine's P.E teacher at HFHN, it was impossible not to notice how wonderful she was. Our hearts go out to your family. We are heartbroken by the passing of Catherine. Catherine has left a footprint in our hearts and will never be forgotten, she helped my daughter through some very difficult times.
