Charles Burghardt Obituary

Chuck Burghardt, 75, born June 10, 1945, son of Charlie and Gladys, passed on from his adventurous, happy life on December 8, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan; his children, Marlena and Michael; three of his four brothers, George (Lien), Robert, and David Burghardt; his two sisters, Marie (David) Blakeslee Sr. and Deborah (Ralph) Vilardi; plus his nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded by his brother, James, this year, as well as his infant brother Ernest.

Chuck was a devoted sports player, coach, and fan. You could find him at Yale Bowl rooting for his beloved Bulldogs, at UConn basketball games, on a baseball field, or on a golf course. He was an avid traveler, visiting all fifty states and several countries with his family. Chuck could be seen through the years walking uptown with his dogs, Stormy, Trouble, and Boo. One of his favorite things was to be with family and friends telling stories and jokes and just enjoying life.

The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. The family has decided to celebrate Chuck's life and achievements at a later date when everyone who loved and cared about him can attend safely together. In lieu of flowers, please donate to: On The Team, Wallingford Department of Youth and Social Services, 6 Fairfield Blvd., Wallingford, CT, 06492. Chuck loved teaching and coaching kids so your donation will help athletes who need support to pursue their LOVE OF THE GAME! To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.BaileyCares.com.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Burghardt's passing. He was a great guy and I enjoyed talking sports with him while at Wilcox Tech. He was always upbeat and enjoyed being with the students. My condolences to the family, he will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of have Mr. Burghardt as my Social Studies teacher for two out of the four years I attended H.C. Wilcox Tech. He was a no nonsense kind of teacher but always had a funny lighter side to him. At the end of every class, he would pull out this little book of jokes from his top drawer and tell a joke. Some jokes were funny and well, some not so funny. However, he laughed at them. He was a great teacher who took time out for his students. God Speed Mr. Burghardt.

When we were kids around Simpson Ave we would get together for baseball games. We would choose sides and all bring our gear. If there were 9 or 10 of us we would have 3 or 4 bats and a couple of balls and hope there were enough gloves to be able to tradeoff between innings so most every one had a glove on the field.
Mostly we were there to argue about balls, strikes and out or safe- it was fun.
Chuck was different- his hat was perfectly shaped and clean- his glove was perfectly shaped and ( unlike the rest of us) he just acted like a real baseball player.
His adult career in sports activities came a no surprise'
Chuck was a great childhood friend and will be sorely missed.
Condolences to his family for their loss.
