Lucia Mina Gallego

1939 - 2010

Lucia Mina Gallego, 71, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in Bakersfield, CA.

She was born in Porterville, California on January 30, 1939.

After graduating from Porterville High School, she married David T. Gallego and had 2 sons, Randy and Mark. Lucia retired from Porterville State Hospital in 2001 where she worked for over 35 years as a Psychiatric Technician. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Allen and Sarah and doing her arts and crafts. She always had multiple projects that she was working on and was willing to teach anyone her gifts of craft making and party planning. She was also ready to help with baby showers, weddings, birthdays and holidays. If you ever needed a hand in anything, Lucia and her husband were there to help you and guide you in the right direction.

Lucia loved to work with children. She was actively involved in the cub scouts and the relief society for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For several years she helped organize the Ozomalti dance group with her husband David and took part in annual Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Lucia will be remembered for her countless contributions and the impact she made on her community and her family.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son Randy, daughter-in-law Beth, grandchildren Allen and Sarah, son Mark, brothers Geno and Freddy, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband David, and parents Cleto Mina and Margaret Carlson.

A viewing will be held Monday, October 18, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1164 N. Newcomb in Porterville, California. A service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will begin at 11:00 a.m. immediately after the viewing. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
