Jim and I served aboard the USS Griffin AS 13, Stockton Group, Pacific Reserve Fleet in the early '60s. Both of us were proud US Navy men. Some years went by and we reconnected. We were both working for San Joaquin County when our paths crossed again. He was Assistant Superintendent of Government Buildings and the Hospital Engineer at San Joaquin General for a number of years. I worked under Jim and he was one of the best supervisors I ever had. He always had a cool head about him and could handle any situation with logic and poise. At that time I was a member of the Ca National Guard, 49th Transporation Co. The CH 47 Helicopter Co based at the facility at the Stockton Airport. Then I found out Jim was at the same facility with the118th Maintenance Co CA NG. I always thought that was pretty cool. We were on the same ship together in the US Navy. We were both members of the California National Guard with our units based at the same facility in the same time period. And I had the good fortune to work under Jim with San Joaquin County. I am sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to Jim's wife and all of his family & all of those who knew and loved him.

I was the Mess Officer in the 118th Maintenance Co CA NG. I worked a lot with Jim. he was a good leader, dependable at all times. I left the Guard in 1979 for the Army Reserve and I often thought of Jim and the good times we had. Though I was then a 2LT, I had been a Mess Sgt once. Jim appreciated me teaching the cooks tips on using the field ranges and how to make pies. I retired as a Colonel but l always say I went from Cook to Colonel and it is because of men like Jim who made the journey easier.
My sincere condolences to his family, his dedication to this nation is appreciated and I salute him.
