Susan Bowden Ross Haines, 103, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, July 26 at 11 am in the Brown Chapel at Cypress Glen Retirement Community.
Mrs. Haines was born on May 1, 1911 in Stonewall, NC, daughter of the late Eugene Clifton Ross and Sudie Hardison Ross. The family moved to Washington, DC in 1917. After graduating from McKinley High School, she attended Temple Business School. She married Leo Franklin Haines and they lived in Arlington, VA. She worked for American Telephone and Telegraph Company forty years. She moved to Greenville, NC in 1973. She was Regent of Captain Wendell Wolfe Chapter, D.C., DAR from 1955 to 1958. She was a member of Jarvis United Memorial Methodist Church and an honorary member of San Souci Book Club.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Riley Ross and Robert Ross; four sisters, Louise Ross, Janie Roberts, Hope Anderson and Inez Schultz.
She is survived by her many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own children.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church, 510 S. Washington St., Greenville, NC 27834, Cypress Glen, Benevolence Care Fund, 100 Hickory Street, Greenville, NC 27858, or a charity of one's choice.

What at grand lady!!! The Brook Valley neighborhood loved Susan. She made us all feel like her family. If we could all
have her spirit, we could make this a better world. We'll miss you, Susan.
