Dennis Dale Thompson passed away Feb. 23, 2017. He was born Nov. 7, 1941 in Bertrand, Nebraska. Dennis was an artist. He grew up in Bertrand, earned an A.A. and B.S. in art education and a Master of Science degree in painting, drawing and print making. He taught Jr. High and High School art in Kansas and Wyoming for 11 years before coming to Eugene in 1977. He worked 22 years at the Eugene Good Samaritan Center in the activity dept. He retired early, continuing to volunteer at Good Sam and as a gallery guide at the Jacob's Gallery for 15 years. Those were his day jobs. His life was painting and family, followed by fishing, jazz, gardening and cooking.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father James Henry Thompson and mother Freda Marie (Ziems) Thompson, his brothers Bill and Jim Thompson and sister Betty Bachmann.
He is survived by his sister Diane Dunn of Grants Pass, his wife Peggy, son Carl (Louise), grandchildren Luke and Leah Thompson and much loved nieces and nephews.
Dennis requested no service. Memorials may be sent to copdfoundation.org or mailed to COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Miami FLA 33134.

So sorry to hear of his passing. I was in his art class in Concordia. He was very nice. He let us bring record albums to play during class. I believe that's when I became a lifelong Led Zeppelin fan! Rest in peace, Mr. Thompson. The world is enjoying your art!

I also knew Dennis back in the day when he and Peggy were in Kansas and am fortunate to own a very nice painting he made circa 1968. His obit shows that Dennis was a caring teacher, artists, volunteer in the community and not least a good husband and father. I would like to be able to see more of his art but do not know how to access it? My career was in art museums and as an artist. Michael Sanden, Daytona Beach, Florida.

One of the great artists of our time! I remember Dennis from our days in Kearney, Nebraska. Diana Rasmussen and I live in southern Oregon and often recall those student days and wonder about our friends from those years. Maybe we can get a piece of Dennis Thompson art work into the Museum of Nebraska Art at Kearney if we try?
