Opal Perry Collier, 94, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday December 10, 2011. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 14th at Merkel First Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Keller officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Opal was born October 26, 1917 in Hamilton County, TX to John D. and Vera (Frady) Perry. She married Thomas B. "Jack" Collier Jr. April 14, 1936 in Temple, OK. He preceded her in death April 7, 1974. Opal was a grocery checker for many years at Carson's Supermarket. She was a multi-talented lady enjoying quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting and playing dominos with her friends. Opal was an active member of First Baptist Church, the Golden Saints as well as volunteering at Heritage Hall serving meals to seniors.
Survivors include son, Kenneth Collier and wife Ann of Temple, TX; daughter, Frances Watts and husband Jackie of Hamby, TX; sister, Glenda Smith of Tacoma, WA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 2 brothers, Troyce and Billy Ray Perry. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
