Little Mike Matakas

August 20, 2017

Mike Brady and I grew up together in Alamogordo, NM. For many years, he was known as Big Mike and I was Little Mike. Our families attended church together -- we were great friends. Barney and Myra served us many fried chicken Sunday dinners with the best gold cake for desert I can remember. Although we had not seen each other for a long, he will live forever as my first, best, and always friend.

May arms of God wrap around the family and friends of Mr. Mike as he was called by some of his band members in Rotan in 1968. He was a wonderful director and very much liked by all of us.
I talked to Mr. Mike a few years ago after I finally found him and have been trying to find a number for him in the past few weeks to remind him we'd love for him to come to our 50th class reunion..... We'll see him again.....

So sorry and shocked to hear of Mike's passing. Mike was such a good man and friend! He was one of the funniest guys I have ever known, always clever, and always so friendly. He touched the lives of so many students through his career as a band director. My you rest in peace my friend!
