Jean Higgins Obituary
Bronte, TX
Jean Higgins, 87, of Bronte, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at her residence. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 18, 2016, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.
Jean was born February 4, 1929, in Noodle, TX to Lovel and Agnes Rutledge. She married Ollie Higgins on April 20, 1947. He preceded her in death on May 20, 2014.
She was a bookkeeper for Abilene Aero from 1968 to 1989. She was a rancher from 1989 until her death. She enjoyed spending time with her family, checking on the cows, and caring for the dogs.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and their daughter, Wantha Kay Higgins.
Jean is survived by her son, Steve Higgins and wife Cathy of Abilene; two sisters, Joye Stevens and husband Marion of Abilene, Janice Edwards and husband DeLoss of Abilene; two grandchildren, Jenee' Higgins of Big Spring and Cory Higgins and wife Jessica of Clyde.
Pallbearers will be Cory Higgins, Donnie Edwards, Jimmie Taylor, Gary Constance, DeLoss Edwards and David Bridgford.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 301 S Pioneer Dr # 105, Abilene, TX 79605.
Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
