Jerry Kilgore Obituary

Jerry Kilgore

Knox City,, TX

Jerry Kilgore, 80, of Austin passed away on April 26th after a long illness.

Jerry was born in Knox City, TX on November 14, 1936. He graduated from Benjamin High School in 1953 and proudly served his country as a bomber Crew Chief in the United States Air Force from 1954 through 1958.

Jerry started his professional career with National Cash Register and went on to become a very respected and sought after computer programmer consulting with many companies including Nissan, IBM, and most recently Focus Embedded.

Jerry was an amateur car racer, a Camaro enthusiast, and a longtime member of the Sports Car Club of America. He was avid reader with a passion for science fiction. He was the authority on all of the JRR Tolkien works; he liked Star Trek not Star Wars, and was always ready for a game of Gran Turismo or Warcraft.

Jerry loved his cigarettes, a cup of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, and a challenging game of chess. His perfect vacation was relaxing on the beach with a book. He bragged about Sandy's home cooking to everyone and he could never pass up a good chicken fried steak.

Jerry was very articulate, thoughtfully spoken, and right about most everything. He was a man of well-chosen words, a loving husband, a steadfast father, and a respected mentor to all.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents John and Gladys Kilgore. He is survived by his wife of 33 and 1/2 years, Sandra Hubbard Kilgore; children, Tammy Kilgore, Lance Kilgore, Laurie Hambelton, and Kristy Redmon; grandchildren, Michelle Croft, Austin Young, Philip Brent Redmon, Anthony Jackson, and Alexander Johansen; and great-grandchildren, Brandon Young, Wesley Croft, and River Redmon; sister, Nelda Brewster Davis; and nephews, Tommy and Bart Brewster.

A visitation will be at 12:30PM, with the funeral service following at 2:00PM, May 3, 2017 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Rd, Austin, Texas 78750.

Jerry was an anchor for our family. We could all depend on his wisdom and guidance. I will miss his witty sense of humor and uncanny ability to analyze people and situations. Most of all, I appreciated his unwavering support, loyalty and love for my sister. Rest in peace Jerry. Until we meet again.

It's so difficult to lose a colleague, mentor, and dear friend of so many years. I cannot begin to fathom the loss of such a man to his family. But I pause to consider what a blessing he was to have in my own life, and how with gentle guidance and wisdom he shaped so many lives in the generations after his own. The rock that was Jerry left a lot of ripples in the pond, and he'll live on in so many ways. I never let the eyeglasses deceive me... I always knew him to be a man of very clear vision. And from a perch somewhere on Mount Nebo he surely saw many things before I did. As I mourn his loss, I also celebrate his life and find peace in the knowledge that he is finally in the promised land.

Sandy, Tammy, Lance,

I just want to extend our deepest sympathies to you and your familes for the loss of Uncle Jerry. Please always know you can reach out to us for anything we can help with, talk, share wonderful memories.

I guess what stands out to me about my Uncle Jerry, was his zest for life, his interests, and his positive attitude it seemed about so many things. As a child I remember being amazed at his interests, sport car racing, programming, and his contagious smile and attitude. He always showed respect to me and made me feel honored in his presence. The holidays we spent with him and family in Omaha, will always be in my memory banks. His genuine approach and logical thinking to everything was something I always tried to emulate.

I think celebrating all that he did in his lifetime and what he meant to so many is so important, yes, we are losing a terrific man on earth, but he will always be in our memories and he clearly made a mark in my life that I will always cherish. A truly incredible individual, and an Uncle I will always keep close to my heart. I will never forget. Tom Brewster/Colorado Springs, Co.
