Capt. Fred McCullough Biddlecomb, 69, of Fairport, Virginia died on January 6, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Capt. Walter Joseph and Nathalie McCullough Biddlecomb. Capt. Fred was a lifetime commercial waterman and charter boat captain and served as President for the Virginia Waterman's Association. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverley Davis Biddlecomb; two sons, Joseph Davis Biddlecomb and wife, Dawn and Charles Henry Biddlecomb and wife, Paige; five grandchildren, Joseph Davis Biddlecomb, Jr., Grant Crowther Biddlecomb, William Randolph Blundon Biddlecomb, Nathalie Elizabeth Biddlecomb and Ally Paige Biddlecomb; sisters, Johanna Biddlecomb Shahan and Winifred Biddlecomb Delano and a brother, Capt. J. Dudley Biddlecomb. Capt. Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Maria Biddlecomb Rogers. Capt. Fred was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Fleeton where he served in numerous positions including the Vestry and Sr. Warden. He was Past Master of Reedville Lodge # 321 A. F. and A. M.; a member of the Reedville Fisherman's Museum and served as Chairman for the Blessing of the Fleet for 25...

Marianne and I were (like so many in Reedville) saddened to hear of Fred's passing. We both can recall when we arrived in Reedville (1988) we went fishing out past the spyder. Soon, my VHF radio crackle with someone (Fred aboard the Dudley) telling me in no uncertain terms that I had run over his "chum line". I went and checked my propeller and saw on line entangled. Guess you can see how dumb us come heres were back then. Since then, I have exchanged many friendly hellos to Fred and will miss his smile and wave.
